Evidence

Evidently– (see what I did there) evidence is the thing that makes our world go round. People can not be prosecuted for a crime without valid evidence. Humans just simply tend to not believe in anything unless there is evidence. The only exception to that really is religion, but that another topic.

As the author says “evidence is immensely central to our lives. We rely on it in science to expand or technological capacity and advance our understanding of the world. We rely on it in journalism to keep us accurately informed and to hold individuals and institutions accountable for their actions. We rely on it in politics to determine which laws to pass, which policies to implement, and which wars to fight. And we rely on it in medicine to sustain or health and save our lives.” Evidence makes our world go round.

Sometimes in life evidence can be sqewed with what is factual. In today’s society there is plenty of fake news to go around for everyone. We all have to train ourselves in whats factual and whats non-factual. We live in a consumers world. Where everyone and their dog is trying to sell something to us. There are plenty of people in this world who are habitual spenders and do not look at the evidence behind the product they are investing in. A lot of the times the product isn’t what you thought it would be. A big example of this is people who sell items on eBay, but potentially sell you the wrong thing. Because its their job to hustle you and rip you off. Like the author says “Language, categories, causality, psychology; without expertise in these domains, we would be sunk. And without inductive reasoning- the capacity to reach very big conclusions based on very little data – we would never gain the expertise.” He is saying that we have to have inductive reasoning in order to have or own evidence. Not everything in the world comes with it. The only other thing I want to respond to, is how we respond to evidence. My mother is always listening to her father and his views/beliefs but, she tends to forget that those are his individual thoughts and that she needs to create her own,and not always have to agree with what he is saying. If you are presented with evidence or maybe just he say or she say then you have to have the ability to formulate your own intellectual conclusions. I am constantly arguing with my younger brother about random things, because he will make an accusation or state something, but i’m like Where is the evidence where is the credibility where did you get your information? Evidence is extremely important for people to have in order to not get scammed in today’s society.
